Nick Boulton
Nick Boulton graduated from Sutherland Chan School of Massage Therapy in 1991. He has been a part of New Directions In Health since 1992 where he specializes in deep soft tissue massage which helps free up myofascial adhesions and restrictions, allowing greater ease and flexibility.
Nick’s primary focus has been therapeutic massage with the intention of helping to restore full pain-free function in the case of injury, or expanding on function and flexibility in the case of postural and functional restrictions. He believes that our bodies are like bonsai trees; over time they change shape to reflect the influence of habitual forces (like gravity) and usage patterns that our bodies contend with. These changes can be beneficial or adverse. In pursuit of this, he has studied NISA (Neuromuscular Integration and Structural Alignment) and muscle energy techniques. He also has experience in craniosacral massage.

Dr. Michael Friedman
Dr. Michael Friedman has been helping patients to move, heal, and feel their best for over 23 years. With a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology from York University and a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas, he has practiced in both Vancouver and Ottawa before bringing his expertise here to New Directions in Health.
A holistic, patient-centered approach guides Dr. Friedman’s care. He combines advanced chiropractic techniques with knowledge of nutrition, brain-based healing, postural neurology, and vestibular rehabilitation. He is also trained in Turner Style cranial adjustments and certified in the Webster Technique, a gentle, precise chiropractic approach that focuses on restoring balance and ease within the pelvis, sacrum, and the surrounding muscles and ligaments. This specialized approach can be especially beneficial for expectant mothers. Additionally, he integrates a tonal approach based on the Torque Release Technique (TRT) into this approach. TRT is a gentle, neurologically focused method that uses a specialized instrument to provide precise adjustments in order to help restore balance to the nervous system, promoting the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
Dr. Friedman also has a passion for education and has shared his knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology with massage therapy and acupuncture students at the International Academy of Health Education in Ottawa (now Trios College). Outside the clinic, he is a part-time stand-up comedian, a pursuit that deepens his ability to connect with patients through empathy, perspective, and laughter.
At New Directions in Health, Dr. Friedman is looking forward to providing individualized care that not only eases discomfort but also helps patients regain balance, vitality, and confidence in their everyday lives.
